How do I get into Gwent?

I tried a few times when I first started playing and lost every time. Didn't know what I was doing and got discouraged. I can't play strategy games IRL, I just get bored super easy or too impatient to learn the rules. I am about 100 hours in and figure I should learn. What are some good pointers? Do I need to restart a new game? I'm in Skellige now at level 20.
