Trouble getting 'into' the game (so many cutscenes)!

());

I bought the Witcher a couple of months ago after seeing the 90%+ reviews, and really enjoying Skyrim (a similarly style and size RPG) on the 360.

I really want to like it, but I'm just having trouble getting into the game! I've put maybe 3 hours in so far, and know I'm only at the beginning, but it seems to be just riding from place to place, and enduring endless cutscenes from small characters talking about their lives / what they like to drink / what happened to their brother. I feel a bit overwhelmed with watching cut scenes, and just moving from place to place.

…And when I do get into combat, I'm floored / killed fairly easy. I've beaten one griffin and found that enjoyable, took some time but figured out a good way to fight it, but 3 or more foot soldiers and I'm done for.

I guess I'll level up armour and such eventually, but does anyone have any tips, or useful insight? Do the endless cutscenes calm down? Or become more relevant?

Again, I'm not here to slag off the game, and want to get into at as I'm sure it is great, maybe I'm just approaching it wrongly?
