Just got game, cannot seem to cast signs in tutorial -- can't progress? [PS4]

I decided to opt in for the combat tutorial and at one point it asks me to cast a sign by pressing R2… however I push this button over and over and nothing happens. Pushing any button besides R2 makes "cannot perform this action" appear on the screen.

I can't seem to get out of the combat tutorial unless I make another save which I really don't want to do.

Witches 3 noob here but generally a gaming / tech expert… anyone have any advice?
