Questions about quests and levels.

Hello, I've been playing witcher 3 for 2 days and I have some questions. I just finished the main story in Velen and I am asked to go to Novigrad. However, there are a bunch of sidequests and contracts that I have yet to complete. Should I do them now and not worry about being overleveled? If I leave them for later, will it be worth coming back to experience the story or is it going to be too late? What is better to do, if I were to decide: secondary quests or witcher contracts?
