Most effective build in current patch

I just started playing the game and i have no idea what to do. I play on "Blood and Broken Bones" difficulty and i was wonder what i should invest my points in and which armors and swords i should be trying to obtain. I currently have 5 points in muscle memory and 1 in quen and i am a level 7 with generic gear.
